Columbia fire crews battling trailer fire

The Columbia Fire Department was working to extinguish a fire at a mobile home park on Friday in the south part of the city.

Crews went to a trailer at 4130 Lenoir Street near Grindstone Parkway and Highway 63. Emergency personnel got a call at 5:47 p.m. Five minutes later, firefighters arrived on scene and found heavy smoke and fire coming from underneath structure.

Crews had to peel back some of the skirting and exterior wall before everything was under control 20 minutes later.

Three people and one cat named Cleo were able to escape unharmed. They are now staying with family.

There is no word yet on a possible cause or damage at this time.
