Cold weather pattern, possible snow

The weather pattern is shifting to a much colder pattern for Mid-Missouri as a ridge of high pressure aloft builds along the west coast causing the upper level winds to head north into northern Canada then dive to the south, bringing arctic air into the central and eastern states.

The first blast of arctic air will be felt Thursday as daytime temperatures stay in the 20s. Yet another surge of cold air hits Saturday morning as another cold front moves through bringing some clouds and bitterly cold air. Valentine’s Day is looking dry but very cold with icy northerly winds.

Just as the weekend cold air starts to shift to the east, another cold front will drop into the northern states early Monday. At the same time, an upper level wave will move in from the northwest lifting moisture in from the southwest as surface low pressure winds up in the 4 corners region and tracks to the east.

Forecast models show this moisture moving into western Missouri early Monday morning in the form of snow and spreading over Mid-Missouri during the day with measurable snow possible. There are still uncertainties with the forecast which will be resolved as the upper wave moves onshore Saturday and we get a better idea on the exact track of the surface low.
