Body found in lake near Holts Summit

Callaway County authorities are investigating after a body was found Tuesday night near Holts Summit.

Callaway County sheriff’s deputies were called to check on a suspicious car parked on private property near Copper Road, south of Holts Summit. After the initial call, a resident of the neighborhood found a body in a nearby lake.

Investigators and the county medical examiner identified and recovered the body of 55-year-old Mark Wenkel of Holts Summit.

No foul play is suspected at this time, but an official cause of death will not be determined until toxicology results are released.
