Class resumes after gas leak at Trinity Lutheran School

The Jefferson City Fire Department was dispatched to a strong gas odor inside the Trinity Lutheran School at 7:15 Monday morning.

When the first fire units arrived staff and children from the school had been evacuated to a safe area away from the school.

Firefighters checked for the source of the leak and determined the gas odor was coming from the schools kitchen area.

A stove in the kitchen was turned off by school staff after finding the pilot lights to the stove were not visible before firefighters arrived.

When they got there firefighters ventilated the first floor of the school to get fresh air inside the building.

Students were moved to the Church sanctuary for a short time while fire officials and school staff made sure the building was clear to re-enter.

No injuries were reported as a result of the gas leak.

Fire officials determined that the school was safe to return to normal activities with no risk to the staff or students.

Firefighters cleared the scene at 8:15 a.m.
