Wintry weather causes accidents in Mid-Missouri

Wintry weather has already caused dozens of accidents in Mid-Missouri Wednesday.

Snow started moving into the area at around noon, and near the I-70 corridor by 1:00 p.m. Most of the snow was out of the Columbia area by Wednesday night.

Boone County Joint Communications told ABC 17 News there were 44 accidents in and around Columbia between 1:00 p.m. and 5:50 p.m.

Roads were quickly becoming slushy early Wednesday night.

A light glaze of ice formed on roads in Jefferson City, where freezing drizzle fell before turning over to snow.

A winter weather advisory is still in effect until 3 a.m. for Benton, Camden, Miller, Morgan, Maries, Phelps, and Pulaski counties.

Several closings and cancellations were reported in to ABC 17. You can see a list of those here, and check Missouri road conditions here.
