Jefferson City man found guilty of burglary after entering woman’s home

A Jefferson City man is awaiting sentencing after a Cole County jury found him guilty of first degree burglary.

According to the Cole County prosecutor, Antwain Stewart walked into a stranger’s home through the back door, took off his pants and tried to get in bed with a woman who was asleep. The woman woke up and led Stewart out of her home at knife point. Shortly after, Jefferson City police took Stewart into custody.

Stewart previously served 20 years in prison for second degree murder, armed criminal action, escape or attempted escape from prison and unlawful use of a weapon, court documents said.

He is set to appear in court April 17 for sentencing.
