Weekend Rain and Snow Update
Measurable snow is expected in parts of Mid-Missouri this weekend with minor accumulation of an inch or less south of I-70 and up to 4 inches in areas north of HWY 24.
An area of low pressure will move in from the southwest, carrying Pacific moisture into mid-Missouri. The moisture will move in as rain Saturday morning in western Missouri and spread to the west through the afternoon. Some slushy snow mixed in with the rain is possible in the morning with all rain in the afternoon as temperatures climb into the low 40s.
As temperatures cool Saturday evening, areas north of I-70 will see a change of rain to snow through the night with the rain-snow line near I-70 by daybreak Sunday as temperatures fall to near freezing. Some ice is possible on roads early Sunday morning before temperatures climb above the freezing mark. Also, snow will start to cover untreated roads north of I-70 by Sunday morning. Travelers should expect slow travel if heading north as snow totals will increase as heading north.
Rainfall amounts will range from a half inch to an inch with higher rainfall amounts south of I-70 where little to no snow will fall.
