City of Columbia announces savings of $4 million to 2014 budget

City of Columbia leaders held a news conference Friday morning to announce savings to the city budget.

City Manager Mike Matthes said, “It takes a high level of trust with the city council to make decisions about not spending.”

An external audit revealed the City of Columbia saved $4 million in the 2014 budget.

Matthes and Mayor Bob McDavid introduced Kristen Hughes with external auditing firm McGladery to explain the results of the annual city audit. This company has been auditing Columbia for the past 6 years. The audit is done to make sure the city is operating in accordance with specific guidelines.
