Police detain two Jefferson City boys after they escape Prenger Center

Jefferson City Police were led on a foot pursuit Thursday afternoon after two boys escaped from the Prenger Family Center.

One of those boys was the 15-year-old boy who ran off from a JCPS field trip in St. Louis, and showed up at the ABC 17 News studios the same night, according to Juvenile Court Administrator Michael Couty.

Couty told ABC 17 the boys were in a non-secure classroom at Prenger, emphasizing Prenger is working to provide a secure environment for their education.

Jefferson City Police Captain Doug Shoemaker told ABC 17 the boys fled the center at around 1:15 Thursday.

Shoemaker said the two were found a short time later in the 1800 block of Christy Drive.

The juveniles were detained following the chase.
