Columbia man sentenced for child porn involving Boy Scouts

A Columbia man was sentenced to 20 years in prison without parole Tuesday by a federal court for using a false identity to lure 7 boys into child pornography.

25-year-old Ian Burow posed as a woman to trick the minors, whom he knew through Boy Scouts.

Burow pleaded guilty to the crime in February 2014 and is also sentenced to serve the rest of his life on supervised release following his release from jail.

Burow admitted to using a female alias to communicate online and through cell phone with several Boy Scouts ranging in age from 14 to 17.

Burow tricked the victims into sending him pornographic photos of themselves in inappropriate poses, or make videos and live broadcast themselves in sexual behavior over the internet.

Burow sent the boys photos of a woman in various sexually explicit poses to encourage the boys to send similar photos. Once he received the media, he sent the photos and movies to the other victims and other people.

Witnesses said they saw Burow with nude photos of young boys on his phone and at least one witness caught him talking inappropriately to one victim on the internet. The witness confronted Burow, but he claimed he was working for a task force investigating online predators, assisting law enforcement to bring said predators to justice.

Law enforcement identified multiple people who were solicited by Burow for pornographic content, and not all were minors.

Burow pleaded guilty to seven counts of receiving and distributing child pornography involving 6 different minors. He also pleaded guilty to one count of producing child pornography for using a 15-year-old victim to engage in sexually explicit conduct and broadcast that live using Skype.
