One injured in Saturday morning shooting in central Columbia

One man was hospitalized after being shot early Saturday morning in the 200 block of Hickman Avenue.

Police said they were dispatched to the area just before 5:30 a.m. for an assault.

Officers confirmed to ABC 17 News one man was found with a gunshot wound and was unresponsive when they arrived. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The extent of his injuries were unknown as of Saturday afternoon.

Police said no one has been arrested. Residents of the home told officers an intruder came into the house and shot the victim.

Neighbors in the area told ABC 17 News they saw police cars and crime scene tape up until early Saturday afternoon.

The investigation is ongoing.
