Stay issued by Missouri Supreme Court for man convicted in deadly DWI crash

The Missouri Supreme Court has issued a 30 day stay in the case of a Cole County man convicted in a deadly 2007 DWI crash.

The court will take that time to decide whether to keep Larry Welch in jail, or release him.

Welch was originally sentenced to 20 years in prison for the crash that killed Jean and Toby Olsen on Route C near Russellville.

Last month, Cole County judge Daniel Green announced a reduction from Welch’s sentence from 20 years to 7, meaning he could have been released Wednesday.

Cole County Prosecutor Mark Richardson filed a writ last week to hand over the decision to the state supreme court.
