Cole Co. prosecutor trying to block release of convicted killer

Cole County Prosecutor Mark Richardson is asking the state supreme court to block the release of Larry Welch, a man convicted in a deadly 2007 DWI crash.

The Missouri Court of Appeals Western District has issued a stop order to halt a Cole Countyjudge from reducing the sentence of a man convicted in a deadly DWI crash.

The wreck happened off of Route C near Russellville outside Jefferson City.

Jean Olsen and her son Tobias were both killed in the crash.

A judge announced the reduction from 20 years to 7.

Unless the high court steps in, Welch could be released as early as Tuesday.
