Man arrested after LU fundraising scam

A man was arrested after Lincoln University warned of a fundraising scam toward local businesses and residents.

A man was approaching people saying he is a representative of the university and the school’s radio station, KJLU, looking for donations to build a home for foster children.

Lincoln University confirmed the solicitation is a scam, and it does not rely on door-to-door donations.

Anyone who feels uncertain about someone claiming to be raising money on behalf of the school is urged to call the Office of University Advancement at 573-681-6070.

The man is in Jefferson City Police custody as of Tuesday afternoon.
