Dangerously Cold Wind Chills Wednesday
A combination of arctic air and gusty northwesterly winds will produce dangerously cold wind chill temperatures Wednesday morning. Northwesterly winds will pick up after midnight and hold steady near 20 mph from 5 to 10 AM Wednesday, gusting to 30 mph at times. These icy winds combined with temperatures in the single digits will make it feel like 10 to 20 degrees below zero from 5 in the morning until noon Wednesday.
Frostbite can occur in 30 minutes in wind chills of 15 to 20 below zero. Those who are outdoors without sufficient protection will run a high risk of frostbite and hypothermia. It’s best to cover all exposed skin and dress in layers.
A Wind Chill Advisory has been issued for all of Mid-Missouri from early Wednesday morning through early Thursday morning due to expected wind chill readings of 10 to 15 below zero again Wednesday night.
Temperatures won’t be as cold Thursday due to a southwesterly wind but it will still be breezy. Wind chill readings will start off near 15 below zero Thursday morning and rise to near 10 in the afternoon.
