Suspect in six Columbia bank robberies arrested

Columbia police have arrested 43-year-old Shaun Christopher Becker of Columbia in connection to six recent bank robberies in Columbia.

Police were questioning a man they detained shortly after a bank robbery on the city’s east side this morning.

That man, Becker, was arrested and charged Saturday night.

He was charged with six counts of second degree robbery.

Detectives confirmed he was the person in surveillance video from five previous bank robberies including:

-Central Bank of Missouri at 2500 Rangeline Street on 11/24/14

-First State Community Bank at 3200 Golden Bear Drive on 11/28/14

-United Missouri Bank at 1516 Chapel Hill Road on 12/9/14

-Boone County National Bank at 1916 Paris Road on 12/15/14

-Regions Bank at 2114 Paris Road on 12/22/14

The call for the Saturday morning robbery came out around 10:45 A.M. from the Boone County National Bank branch at 205 South Keene Street, near U.S. 63 and WW.

Police near the scene confirmed the robbery and that they had caught a man matching the description of the suspect. An ABC 17 reporter saw the man being held in a patrol car at a nearby apartment building.

Bryana Maupin with the Columbia Police Department said a man entered the bank through the front door, demanded money from one of the tellers. Maupin said he took an undisclosed amount of money and ran off heading east of the bank.

Police described the suspect as a white male in his 30s, about 5’8” tall, slim build, wearing dark colored clothing, sunglasses, a baseball cap and gloves.

Police said there were no reported injuries or property damage. Police could not confirm if the suspect had a weapon.

Police were searching a trail in the area for more evidence.
