Possible wintry weather this weekend
Unsettled weather returns to Mid-Missouri this weekend as a low pressure system develops over the southwestern United States this week.
This low pressure system could begin to impact our area Friday night into Saturday.
The track of this system will determine what type and how much precipitation we receive early this weekend.
Right now, this system is projected to move just to our south Friday, bringing in rain Friday night after sunset.
Rain could transition into a sleet/freezing rain mix after midnight into the overnight hours, with the possibility of snow on the back side of the system Saturday afternoon. Forecast temperature profiles of the lower atmosphere indicate mixed precipitation Friday night, with light snow possible early Saturday. Any slight change in temperatures at the surface or above could change the type of precipitation we see, making this forecast somewhat tricky since temperatures will be near the freezing mark overnight and early Saturday. We’ll warm up into the upper 30s by late afternoon.
It is too early to determine how much rain, snow, or ice accumulation Mid-Missouri will see during this time period, but the ABC 17 Stormtrack weather team will continue to make adjustments to the forecast as needed this week. For the latest updates, click here.
