Home break-ins up in Columbia

New numbers on Wednesday show residential burglaries spiked during the latest Thanksgiving break in Columbia.

Police confirmed there were 28 break-ins over a 12-day period, starting on Friday, November 21, eventually ending Tuesday, December 2. Six businesses were also hit.

Last year there were only 15 home burglaries and two commercial break-ins.

In 2012, thieves struck 24 homes, and in 2011, 36 homes were hit, along with three commercial businesses.
