Car chase ends in crash, two injured

Two people were hurt in a car crash that happened during a police chase Tuesday night. The chase started on Highway 28 in Maries County when a deputy made a traffic stop. The driver allegedly gave false information before driving off.

The chase continued at high speed onto Interstate 44 and went west toward St. Robert and Waynesville. Deputies followed the fleeing driver onto Highway 17 into Crocker. The suspect car then crashed near Crocker High School.

The driver was hurt, but was last reported to be stable. The passenger got possibly life-threatening injuries and was flown to a hospital in Springfield. There is no word on his or her current condition.

Authorities suspect the driver was intoxicated at the time of the chase and crash. No names have been released, and there have been no charges announced or filed at this point.
