Battle wins school’s first ever state title

The Battle Spartans, in their first year of postseason eligibility, take down Class 5 power Nixa, 25-22 on Friday. This is the school’s first ever postseason title

Battle was down 14-10 in the third until Darion Hall scored on a pick six to give Battle the 18-14 lead after a two point conversion. Brevin Tyler then ran 18 yards for a touchdown, as the Spartans extended the lead to 25-14.

In the fourth, Battle was in a bind on third down and only up three. But Tyler hit Chyrome Thorpe for a 33-yard gain. The Spartans also ran the ball with Jerrion Nelson getting a key first down conversion inside two minutes to seal the deal.

In Class 1, the Westran Hornets fell to Valle Catholic 49-25. The Hornets got on the board with a Zane Jacoby 47 yard-run to tie the game at 7.

Jacoby also scored on a 98-yard run in the third, the longest run in a Bowl-Me-Bowl game. He scored three touchdowns on the ground while also passing for one.

Editor’s note: Graphic in video highlights aired “Class 1 Championship” over Battle highlights. The correct graphic should have been “Class 5 Championship.”
