One dead, deputy injured in Morgan County shooting

One man died and a sheriff’s deputy is injured after a shooting in Morgan County Wednesday night.

One person is dead and a sheriff’s deputy injured after a Wednesday night shooting in Morgan County.

Morgan County deputies and police showed up to a house on 2nd street in Versailles Wednesday night around 10:00.

Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol said law enforcement was called out for an assault in progress.

When they got to the house, 41-year-old Randall Roden had already assaulted someone.

While officers tried to restrain Roden, even using a taser twice, he was able to grab his gun.

They said Roden began firing multiple shots at officers. One of the shots ricocheted and hit a deputy, causing minor injuries.

Officers started firing back, hitting and killing Roden.

Neighbors said they have never heard of anything like this happening in their area.

“I feel like it’s a pretty safe neighborhood, due to the fact that it has not happened before. I’m shocked that this went on last night and it’s sad somebody had to lose their life over it,” said nearby neighbor Ruth Roseborugh.

MSHP’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is leading the investigation into the incident.
