Suspects lead police on chase, shoot at them

Three people were arrested Monday afternoon after leading law enforcement on a chase from Jefferson City into Callaway County.

The Cole County Sheriff’s Department and Jefferson City Police were investigating a suspect when they found the car at a motel on the south side of town with multiple people inside.

When officers tried to stop the car, the suspects drove off and led them on a chase onto Highway 54 then east on Highway 94.

When the chase got outside Jefferson City, one of the people inside the car shot at an officer who was not hit.

Multiple got involved by the time the chase made it into Tebbetts, where the suspects drove through fields and river levees in the Missouri River Bottoms.

The suspect car finally hit a tire spike and kept going west on Highway 94 onto County Road 480 and 481. The car came to a stop then officers took the three into custody. They also took a 2-year-old child into child protective services.

No one was hurt in the chase.

Suspect names will not be released pending formal charges.
