Shed, empty home catch on fire north of Columbia

A Mid-Missouri fire might be suspicious, after flames break out next to a vacant home Friday afternoon.

A police officer spotted smoke coming from a shed off Wall Street in Sturgeon, about 30 minutes north of Columbia. Firefighters responded around 3:20 p.m. and quickly put out the fire.

But investigators told ABC 17 News there is no electricity currently hooked up to the house, so they are not sure exactly how it started.

They think the home has been abandoned for at least a couple of years.
