Police: Man broke into residence at Campus View Apartments

Police are searching for a suspected burglar that got away.

MU Police said a man broke into a residence at Campus View Apartments, also known as Tiger Diggs, and stole several items.

Police said it happened around 6:00 Saturday morning. Police said three female University of Missouri students live in that apartment. They reported an unknown man around 19 to 20 years old came into their home, robbed them of several items and fled.

A couple of MU students living at Campus View said they haven’t seen much crime at the complex since they moved in at the beginning of the semester.

Felicia Porter, Campus View Apartments resident: “I feel pretty safe. There were some instances where we wouldn’t lock our doors, but now I feel like we should definitely keep our doors locked more often.”

Wil Vollbrecht: “I’ve never had a problem here, and I don’t ever lock my door.”

Police said they cannot release what items were stolen because it is part of the investigation.

Captain Brian Weimer with the MU Police Department said they do not have much information on the suspect at this point other than a physical description.

Capt. Brian Weimer, MU Police Department: “It was an unknown black male between 5’6″ and 5’8″, medium build, 19-20 years of age. So not a lot to go on right now but we’re gathering more information, and hopefully with this out there more may come forward and say that they saw something that will help us out.”

Police said no one was harmed in the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
