Wanted Columbia man arrested in northwest Missouri after long police chase

A Columbia man was arrested Thursday after leading police on a 114-mile chase into Jackson County Wednesday.

Columbia Police chased him Wednesday through the city after officers were called to a suspicious car near the Boone County Courthouse around 3:15 p.m.

Officers were told a wanted man was driving around the courthouse looking for a victim who was inside.

Police found the vehicle matching the description and license plates of 32-year-old Donald Buckner outside the courthouse. When they tried to stop him, he fled and began driving too fast for officers to safely stop him.

Buckner apparently made it to Kansas City, where police attempted to stop him while responding to a robbery at a convenience store.

ABC 17 News received the probable cause statement for Buckner’s arrest from the Kansas City Police Department. According to the statement, Buckner robbed two people in a Quiktrip parking lot in Kansas City. When police pulled up to his white GMC Yukon, police say he drove away.

Buckner topped 100 miles per hour, making it to Atchison County in northwest Missouri before deputies with the Platte, Atchison and Holt County Sheriff’s Departments and the State Highway Patrol arrested him.

Buckner told police, according to the report, he had a BB gun inside the car. The report also said photographs of the car showed two handguns on the floor of it. It didn’t specify if one of them was a BB gun. The department is still waiting for a search warrant on the car.

He is currently in the Jackson County jail where he is charged with two counts of robbery, armed criminal action, and resisting a lawful stop. His bond is set at $100,000 cash-only and he currently has no lawyer.
