Ridgeway Neighborhood sponsors tree planting

A Columbia neighborhood and preschool is celebrating the launch of a neighborhood treescaping and beautification program.

Saturday, Ridgeway Neighborhood residents and Community Montessori School teamed up to plant a native cherry tree near the corner of Providence and Sexton Roads.

Ridgeway Neighborhood Association donated the tree with a City of Columbia Neighborhood Services mini-grant.

Lara Landrum, a teacher at Community Montessori School said the tree is a good addition to the school, which is new to the Ridgeway Neighborhood this year.

Lara Landrum, Community Montessori School: “Having this tree here really kind of anchors our school in the community and really fits the mission of our school of providing a beautiful wholesome environment for children, mostly in this neighborhood but also throughout Columbia.”

Ridgeway Neighborhood Association is sponsoring another tree planting on East Forrest Avenue.

This winter, the neighborhood will be working with University extension, the Family Impact Center and others to develop a complete beautification plan.
