Car chase ends with one person arrested, two taken to hospital

A suspect is in custody and two others were sent to the hospital after a car chase ended with the vehicle driving into the house and crashing in the backyard.

It happened Tuesday night around 10:15 on Raleigh Drive in Columbia.

Sgt. Lance Bolinger told ABC 17 that Columbia police were conducting a proactive patrol in the area when the officer recognized a pickup truck as stolen and tried to stop it.

Police said the driver of the pickup truck, Kaylen Hayse, sped away and lost control on Raleigh Drive. He hit a parked car, which slammed into another parked car. Then he drove off the road, hit a house, and stopped in the backyard after a wheel rolled off.

Hayse got out of the car and ran away on foot but was arrested after a short foot pursuit.

Two people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A sergeant at the scene said they were sitting on the couch inside the home and got hurt when the truck hit the house.

Structural crews came to reinforce the home after the crash.

Hayse was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident, first degree property damage, resisting arrest, 2 counts of second degree assault, first degree tampering, careless driving, driving without a license, and for an outstanding warrant for property damage.
