I-70 open again following large wreck near Columbia

Officials say a semi truck kept driving after causing a wreck involvingfour other semis that closed westbound I-70 just west of Columbia for more than two hours overnight.The wreck happened around 4:15 Thursday morning between the Stadium Boulevard and Midway exits. The road opened back up at around 7:15 a.m.

Twosemi trucks were off the road and in a ditch. Traffic was stopped at the site of the wreck, and police officers were stationed at the Stadium entrance to I-70 to direct traffic away from the on-ramp.

Firefighters say one driver was pinned and had to be cut from the crash. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. There were no other injuries.

The debris also ad I-70 Drive shut down in the area.

Investigators say an unidentified semi hit another semi’s side mirror. The semi hit swerved to avoid further contact, when a rear trailer began to jack-knife. It came off the trailer and flipped. Another semi hit the trailer and a third trailer crashed into the back of the second semi. A fourth semi crashed into the grass trying to avoid the wreck, that driver was the one injured.
