Columbia police investigate death of MU student
Tuesday, Columbia police are investigating a death at the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity house near the University of Missouri campus.
Police say officers responded to a call for an unresponsive 19-year-old male at 11:43 Monday night at 602 South College Avenue.
Alpha Gamma Rho House Director Marcia Napier confirms the student was Cale Boedeker.
Boedeker was a sophomore at the university studying Fisheries and Wildlife, according to his profile on the MU Alpha Gamma Rho website. Boedeker graduated from Marshall High School in 2013.
A statement on the Alpha Gamma Rho-Theta Chapter Alumni Facebook page says, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Brother Cale Boedeker, sophomore from Malta Bend, Mo. His family, friends and our fellow brothers are in our prayers.”
Police say the death investigation is being looked at as an incident report, not criminal. And investigators do not suspect foul play based on Boedeker’s medical history and the information gathered at the fraternity house.
The Boone County medical examiner says they are performing an autopsy on a 19-year-old white male today. They do not know when the results will be released.
Danny Kiehl, a childhood friend of Boedeker, tells us Boedeker had type 1 diabetes and it may have been the cause of his death.
Napier says Alpha Gamma Rho will be holding a candlelight vigil on the AGR lawn 9:00 Tuesday night.
