Pro Food Systems warehouse suffers $500,000 in fire damage

A Pro Foods warehouse suffered major damage in an early morning fire.

Firefighters responded around 2:43 a.m. Wednesday to the 100 block of Commerce Drive.

A caller had reported hearing multiple explosions off of State Road OO, just outside of Holts Summit city limits.

Holts Summit police Chief Kyle McIntyre said, “it was actually something on the truck that exploded”.

The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause; at this time it is unknown. Initial damage estimates are around $500.000. That includes those from two cold trucks, a loading bay and product.”They are bringing in some other trucks to replace the two that were damaged”, said Chief McIntyre.

Pro Food was operating as normal Wednesday and responded following the fire in a news release:

“We are thankful that there was no one in the trucks or warehouse at the time of the fire and there were no injuries,” said Shawn Burcham, CEO of Pro Food Systems. “We want to offer our most sincere thanks to the community for calling in the report and for all of their continued support. We also want to thank the Holts Summit and Callaway County law enforcement agencies for responding so quickly and acknowledge the great work done by the Holts Summit Fire Protection District and community volunteers in containing the fire quickly. Without this rapid response there is no doubt that more significant damage would have occurred.”

Security footage showed the fire originated in one truck, igniting the second truck and spreading back through the trailer to the loading dock. No foul play is suspected at this time.
