Changes to be made to prevent pedestrians from crossing College Avenue

City leaders will vote on changes along a busy street near the M-U Campus.

The Council will vote in Monday’s meeting on a project designed to boost pedestrian safety on College Avenue.

Officials want to build a low wall to keep people from crossing in the middle of the road, but some students are not happy about that idea.

Erik Brewer is a student at Mizzou and said he crosses College Avenue at least three to four times a day.

He said if the city does build the wall it would be unfortunate for a lot of people.

“If that is the case that’s really unfortunate. That would, that would definitely like add at least five to ten minutes for my commute at least and I’m sure a lot of other people and that would just be I don’t know, that would really suck because then you’d really have to plan ahead,” said Brewer.

The entire project would cost around eight hundred thousand dollars.

The city’s hope is this wall will push pedestrians to use the crosswalk on Rollins Street to avoid all of the traffic.
