Russellville family loses loved one, home after Thursday fire

A Mid-Missouri family has lost a loved one and their home all in the same day. Anthony Gilpin, 39, was racing home Thursday afternoon after hearing about the fire on Route V near Russellville.

He was in the middle of passing a car on the right shoulder along Route C when he lost control just a few miles east of Russellville around 4:33 p.m., flipping over several times.

Gilpin was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger Fredrick Cundiff, 41, was also unbuckled and thrown from the car. Cundiff was flown to University Hospital in Columbia in serious condition.

After the fire, the Red Cross stepped in to help out the family, which includes a couple and their two grandsons, 12 and 9.

They are now staying with relatives.
