Local school closes for emergency sewer repairs

Harrisburg R-VIII schools closed down Tuesday because of unexpected sewer repairs. Officials say major plumbing problems backed up sewage on Friday in both the middle and elementary schools.

On Tuesday crews worked to replace pipes at the school that were over 50 years old.

Officials hope the issue will not reappear once the work is done. They did not have an estimate on the cost of the construction.

The district is currently on a four-day weekly schedule, so leaders hope the closure will not affect Wednesday classes at this point.
