Former MU linebacker Aldon Smith suspended nine games

Former Missouri Tiger and current San Francisco 49er Aldon Smith was suspended for nine games Friday by the National Football League.

Smith will miss the first nine games of the season without pay for violating the league’s personal conduct and substance abuse policies.

Smith will be eligible to play again in week nine against the New Orleans Saints.

This incident will be the second season in a row Smith will miss several games for non-injury.

In 2013 Smith missed five games after a DUI arrest when he voluntarily checked himself into a treatment facility.

Smith has had previous off the field issues.

He received a 12-day sentence and three years of probation in July following a no-contest plea to three felony weapons charges and two misdemeanor DUI charges.

The weapons charges and one of the DUI charges were in connection to a 2012 party at Smith’s residence where he was stabbed.

Smith was never charged after allegedly threatening a TSA agent at Los Angeles International Airport.

Smith was drafted seventh overall in 2011 from Mizzou.
