Jefferson City man reported missing after his body was found in rural Moniteau Co.
Cody Thirlwall, 32, was reported missing by a family member August 13. Captain Doug Shoemaker with the Jefferson City Police Department said that was days after Thirlwall’s body found.
Relatives said they had not seen Thirlwall since June.
“So there was concern as to where he would be or what he was doing at the time and so on,” said Shoemaker.
It took the Missouri State Highway Patrol longer than expected to identify his body. The time gap is also why the circumstances surrounding his cause of death still remain unknown.
Shoemaker explained it was not unusual for the family to go without seeing him for a while.
“He didn’t really have a particular address that he was tied to, so there was a tendency to maybe move around some, so that’s probably why there’s a delay on the report.”
He said the family had growing suspicions that Thirlwall may be missing. He also clarified that no one knew it was Thirwalls body before the missing person’s report was filed.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol is not releasing any new information regarding the case at this time.
Thirlwall was charged with second-degree burglary in June. He was also sentenced to three years in prison for felony stealing in 2010.
