Construction to interchanges on Hwy. 54 and Stadium starting soon

It’s a project that has been in the works for ten years now.

City officials expect construction to the Stadium and Highway 54 interchanges to start next summer.

Anyone who has driven Stadium and Highway 54 in the morning or afternoon rush hour knows how congested traffic can get.

Matt Morasch with Jefferson City Public Works explained why they are making the changes.

“Two things. How to support the expansion of Capital Region Hospital. The secondary is to look at eliminating some of the back up that occurs in the morning hours of traffic onto the highway.”

Morasch said right now they have designed a roundabout at Stadium and Jefferson.

They also upgraded the traffic signal at Christy Drive and added an additional signal at Monroe St.

Morasch said, “Once it does start you know we time that with knowing when school starts… We try and do a lot of our work in the summer.

Construction is expected to be completed by 2016.
