Penton continues to look at Gaines for guidance.
Sophomore Aarion Penton is expected to be one of the two starting corners for MU this season. But Penton says he still talks with departed Tiger E.J. Gaines for advice. Gaines is now in Penton’s native St. Louis, playing for the Rams. In fact, the C.B.C. product replaced his mentor midway through last year when Gaines injured his leg. With the spotlight on him, the sophomore says he still picks Gaines’ brain about handling a starting spot.
Wipeout’s John Anderson will run wild in Columbia
ESPN anchor and Wipeout host (Sunday at 7 p.m. on KMIZ) John Anderson will return to Columbia in September for the second John Anderson College Ave. Mile. The race will benefit the Anderson Family Charitable foundation. The event is Sunday, September 21 at 9 a.m. Last year, the event raised $30,000 despite rainy conditions. You can register here and the registration fee is $20 before September 18.
Blair Oaks hungry to get back to title game
The Blair Oaks football team is preparing for another state title run. But it will be a difficult feat this year, with the team moving up to Class 3. The Falcons finished 12-2 last year and fell just short of the state title game. Blair Oaks will host a jamboree at 6 p.m. this Friday with Moberly, Owensville and California.
