Accused West Worley shooter appears in court
A man accused in a July Columbia shooting appeared in court Tuesday morning.
18-year-old Tavion Jones is one of the accused shooters in an incident on West Worley Street on July 5th.
In court Tuesday, prosecutors said they had to appoint Jones another public defender from Callaway County because their office is already representing another co-defendant in the case, Jamar Burns.
Jones has already applied for a fast trial. His preliminary hearing is still scheduled for August 26.
On July 5, 20 shots rang out and two people were hit. One woman was grazed by a bullet and another hit near her knee.
Jones was arrested on July 28 for the shooting. Jamar Burns was also arrested two weeks before that.
Court documents said Jones and Burns were together at the same house before the shooting.
One witness said Jones asked him to join them to “shoot up a house on Worley, affiliated to a group known as Squad Up.”
