Road project addresses traffic congestion in Jefferson City

A road project by Jefferson City Public Works slated to start in 2015 will help with traffic congestion in the Capital City.

The project will support the expansion of Capital Region Medical Center, and traffic backup on to Highway 54 at Stadium and Jefferson.

The first phase is scheduled for construction in 2015 to support that expansion. Monroe Street will become a two-way street from Stadium to Woodlawn. A new signal will also be added at Monroe and Stadium. There will also be two right-turn lanes added on Madison Street into the main entrances to the medical center.

Phase 2 is scheduled for 2016 to help with traffic congestion at Jefferson and Stadium. A roundabout will be added at the intersection, and includes some lane widening into and out of the roundabout. This would mitigate backup onto 54 which can pose a safety risk.

Public Works anticipates utilizing surface transportation funds which are administered through MoDOT, city, and Cole County capital improvement sales tax funds.
