Mizzou Tigers arrive at SEC Media Days, team weighs in on DGB
The Missouri Tigers arrived at SEC Media Days Wednesday afternoon in Hoover, Alabama.
Head Football Coach Gary Pinkel, Markus Golden, Evan Boehm, and quarterback Maty Mauk all made the trip. Mauk is one of three sophomores representing their school at the event.
The team said they’re embracing the madness in Alabama this week.
Pinkel said, “We’ve been in the Big 12 all of these years and there’s nothing like this, so it will be a good day for MU football, how hard we’ve worked, and hopefully looking for another great year.”
Missouri has appeared to move on without Dorial Green-Beckham, but his absence is still being talked about pre-season.
DGB will transfer to Oklahoma in the fall, but will have to sit the year out at OU. There is still a chance he could get a waiver to play immediately, something that has Tiger fans riled up.
MU football center Evan Boehm,” I’m happy for him. I respect Dorial, I respect Dorial’s done. He’s a great player an a great kid, and I hope the best for Dorial.”
That sentiment echoed throughout the team. Boehm wished him well, as did Pinkel, who said he spoke with Coach Stoops about a month ago, but wouldn’t go into details about that conversation.
“He’s an overall good kid. He’s got a chance to turn this whole thing into a positive thing for him personally. That’s more so, personally, what I care about and pleased with,” said Pinkel.
Boehm said, “Hey, it sucks the way it happened and everything and how everything went down. But, you know, he’s where he wants to be right now and he’s gonna do big things at Oklahoma just like he did big things here at Missouri. You know he’s gonna do great things and I wish him the best. “
While Missouri said they wish him well, they appear ready to move on. The team said they’re focused on the 2014 season, and not whether DGB plays this season or next for Oklahoma.
“I think he’s an individual who has made some decisions and we all wish him the best. But for me to speculate as to whether I want to see him do something or not, I’d rather not get into that, ” said Pinkel.
There’s still no ruling on whether DGB will play this season or not for OU.
If he does sit out but declares for the 2015 draft, he could end his OU career without ever playing a down for the Sooners.
