Jefferson City in talks to lure project from Columbia

The Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce is in talks to bring a project to the Capital City that had been slated for Columbia.

Sources told ABC 17 News the Chamber is trying to get Special Olympics Missouri to build a new training center in Jefferson City instead.

ABC 17 has also learned the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Department could build a multipurpose room next to the training center. The Parks and Recreation board voted Monday night to proceed with talks on both of these proposed facilities.

Sources also said the $9 million dollars that was set aside for the failed conference center could be used to build an expo center next to these two facilities.

For these projects to be considered, the city would need a large piece of land to build on. The Jefferson City School District owns land near the new St. Mary’s Hospitaloff of Hwy. 179.

Chamber President Randy Allen is slated to speak before the school board at a meeting Monday night.
