Columbia police stepping up patrols for fireworks enforcement

As the fourth of July approaches, Columbia police said they will have extra patrols on duty for fireworks enforcement starting Monday.

Officers said they want to remind people that shooting or possessing fireworks within city limits is prohibited.

A sergeant with the Columbia Police Department said anyone who has a fireworks complaint should not call 911. Instead, they should call the Joint Communications non-emergency number at 573-442-6131.

Officers also want to remind residents not to bring fireworks to the professional display downtown on July 4.
