Investigators still searching for body of missing man in Jefferson City landfill

Jefferson City Police are still searching for a missing man at the city’s Allied Waste landfill as of Sunday.

In a news release, Captain Doug Shoemaker with the Jefferson City Police Department said agencies involved are not ruling anything out in the investigation. Since it’s an open investigation, police cannot reveal what exactly they’re looking for.

Christopher Cray was reported missing on May 20th, he was last seen near the Schnucks on Missouri Boulevard.

So far, Jefferson City police arrested two men in connection with Cray’s disappearance.

Adam Moore-Duncan and Richard Love were both charged in the case. Moore-Duncan was charged with tampering with evidence and Richard Love was charged with tampering with a witness in the disappearance of Christopher Cray.

According to court documents, Moore-Duncan allegedly hid Cray’s body when police were looking for him last month. Love is accused of threatening a witness in the case through text message. Love sent a text message to a witness in the disappearance and homicide of Christopher Cray. The text said the witness was going to die like the first “rat.” The text read, “u rat u gon die like the first rat did in a mousetrap.”

Police said the investigation has revealed Christopher Cray was accused with cooperating with the police and causing the arrest of an individual associate with Richard Love.

Love has threatened that witness more than once. The witness called police and told them Love was outside her apartment threatening to kill her.

A neighbor of Richard Love told ABC 17 News that Love had a roommate that was arrested on the same day as Love. ABC 17 confirmed Shuntell Miller is charged with felony drug possession and is being held on a $150,000 bond, which is an unusually high bond for a drug charge.

Neighbors said they couldn’t say for sure whether they had seen Cray in the neighborhood, but said it was probably drug related.

Neighbors also said Love’s family was no stranger to the justice system. ABC 17 News confirmed the uncle of Richard Love, Tony Love, is in jail facing a first degree child molestation charge in Cole County. His trial is set to begin in August.

ABC 17 News talked to Moore-Duncan’s ex-girlfriend who said she was living with him when she was arrested, and was taken completely by surprise.

Jawell Lee Devins said Moore-Duncan moved in with her at the end of May, just days after Cray was reported missing.

When Devins saw Moore-Duncan’s face on television she couldn’t believe it. Devins said police came to her apartment and arrested Moore-Duncan on June 12 for multiple traffic tickets. She said he has been in jail since then and that the new charges are new to her.

“It’s not adding up to me. It doesn’t make sense to me because I don’t know, I just don’t know how he could be a culprit in this because he’s a good, loyal, generous guy.”

She said she’s still completely shocked, and hopes the families involved are doing okay.

“I’ve never seen that side of him, what they’re portraying in the news, I’ve never seen a vindictive side of him at all for me to even think, ‘hey you shouldn’t be here,'” said Devins.

Jefferson City Police told ABC 17 News they have narrowed down their search to a few places in Cole County.

In a news release Wednesday, Jefferson City police said leads developed since his disappearance made the circumstances suspicious.

Officers were looking at potential crime scenes this week, using help from the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control and Boone County Task Force One.

Cray’s family said earlier this month it was unlike him to cut off contact. They said he had missed his birthday and the birth of his child.
