Woman drowns in car north of Columbia

Investigators are planning an autopsy Tuesday, after a woman apparently drowned north of Columbia inside a car her boyfriend was driving.

A dive team with the state highway patrol recovered the body of Jerriah Gio’Vonna Jordan, 27, from a lake near the Rocky Fork Conservation area in Finger Lakes State Park.

Jordan was riding in the 2001 Mitsubishi Galant driven by her boyfriend, 28, just before 2 a.m. Sunday.

Her boyfriend told the Boone County Sheriff’s Department the car rolled down the boat ramp into the lake. The boyfriend said he was able to escape the car and go to shore, but could not rescue Jordan.

Her boyfriend claimed he ran toward Highway 63, where he called emergency responders and law enforcement.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department is calling the drowning an accident and no foul play is suspected. Drugs and alcohol were not involved in the incident.
