Preventable injuries are leading cause of death in children

Throughout the world, one child dies from a preventable injury every 30 seconds. In the United States, 9,000 families lose a child every year.

Nine million children are rushed to the emergency room in the United States every year just for preventable injuries. Some of those injuries are serious enough to disable children for the rest of their lives.

Officials say that number is high because parents and children don’t have access to the resources they need to prevent an accident.

It’s the reason why the Women’s and Children’s Hospital held the “Safe Kids Day” event Saturday morning.

The event featured 50 different booths from bike helmet fittings to car seat safety. The Boone County Fire Protection District used a model structure to simulate how to escape a burning home.

The event is held only once a year, but information is online with the same tips. Visit the Safe Kids Worldwide.
