Former Jefferson City coach facing sex crimes involving child

Michael Washington Sr., 42, of Jefferson City, is charged on three counts of felony sex crimes against a child. Washington appeared in Callaway County court on Friday.

Callaway Co. Sheriff Dennis Crane said, “The sheriff’s office received a complaint July 27, 2013, that allegedly Mr. Washington had been inappropriately touching and talking with a victim that was underage.”

Washington was indicted on April 3, 2014. Washington is a former employee for Jefferson City Schools and had worked in the system since 2009.

His contract as an in-school suspension aide was not renewed in August 2013.

Last October, Westminster College hired Washington as an assistant football coach in Fulton. Westminster College officials told ABC 17 News Monday that Washington was still employed at the college. On Tuesday, another official said Washington has not worked for Westminster since late 2013.

Investigators believe “the victim’s family had some kind of connection with Washington before the acts happened,” according to Crane.

Washington is currently out on a $40,000 bond.

His trial date is set for August 7, 2014.
