Jefferson City man arrested for having illegal weapons
Cole County Sheriff’s deputies responded Saturday night to a shots fired call at 1626 Gilbert Street in Jefferson City.
A resident in the area said they heard 6-7 gunshots and heard a truck leave the area.
Later that night, deputies were called to 1604 Fawn Court where two men were fighting in front of the home.
Deputies identified one of the men involved in the fight to be Joseph Morris. Deputies asked Morris what happened before they arrived to the home.
Morris got defensive and became aggressive, saying him and his brother had been in a fight.
When asked if there were any weapons inside the home, Morris told deputies he had a 9mm handgun and a shotgun in the house.
Deputies searched the home and found both guns. The shotgun had blood on it, and swabs were sent in for DNA analysis.
The man who was fighting with Morris Friday night told deputies that they were driving in an area near Fawn Ct. when Morris started shooting the guns out of the passenger window of a pickup truck.
Deputies found shell casings inside the pickup truck.
Morris was arrested for unlawful possession of a concealable weapon since he is a convicted felon, and unlawful use of a weapon.
