Accused killer to appear in court
One of two men charged with the 2013 killing of a Columbia teen at McKee Street Park is scheduled to appear Tuesday afternoon in Boone County Circuit Court. Nicholas Thomas is charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 for a motion hearing before Judge Kevin Crane. Thomas’ jury trial is set for June 18.
Thomas is charged with killing 17-year-old Tre’veon Marshall inside the park. A second suspect, Joshua Murray, is also charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action. Murray’s trial date hasn’t been set. 18-year-old Kimberly Makayla Huett-Linzie is charged with hindering prosecution in the case.
Marshall suffered multiple gunshot wounds at McKee Street Park and was pronounced dead at University Hospital in Columbia. The Columbia Police Department’s probable cause statement quotes Murray as telling detectives that Thomas shot Marshall in the back, before Marshall fell to the ground. The statement quotes Murray as saying Nicholas Thomas then fired four additional shots at Marshall. The Columbia Police Department Street Crimes Unit arrested Murray and Thomas in August 2013.
