Mizzou golf travels to nationals

Mizzou golf starts NCAA championship play this Friday after clinching its second nationals berth under head coach Mark Leroux.

The Tigers will lean on senior captains Emilio Cuartero and Hunter Kraus. Both battled for the individual title, with Cuartero taking first place. The senior Spaniard scored a 7-under 65 in his final round at The Club at Old Hawthorne, a course record.

The team will also lean on two Missouri products, junior Ryan Zech and sophomore Wilson Sundvold. Before the regional, Zech was third on the team in scoring average (72.6). Sundvold shot a 1-under 71 in the final round of the Columbia regional.

The NCAA championships will be played at Prairie Dunes, where Missouri placed fifth in the 2011 Big 12 Championships. Cuartero placed 16th overall at the event when he was a freshman on the team.

Missouri is the 27th seed in the 30-team field. The top eight teams after 54 holes will advance to the NCAA match play event to decide the national champion.
