Neighbors in Marshall cleaning up after storm

In Marshall, residents were cleaning up debris of fallen trees and destroyed barns after a tornado touched down miles away.

“I looked out and could see white clouds starting to spin and turn around,” said Richard Clemens.

As the sun came up Sunday, hundreds remain without power near Marshall and across Saline county.

Clemens and his wife were the only ones home in the neighborhood when the storm hit.

“The storm just, when it hit it just sounded like a canon hitting the side of the house. i thought my patio doors were just going to fly in and i could just see trees going and in our yard, it was just unbelievable what was happening,” Clemens said.

During the storm, Clemens was trying to see what was going on.

“I was more curious than anything and i leaned up against my patio door because I thought this rascal was going to blow out and my wife said, ‘what in the world are you doing?”

The family lost five big trees and a barn holding five cows collapsed.

Sheriff’s deputies tell ABC 17 news there were no injuries, not even the cows.

The neighbors’ equipment sheds are destroyed, unrecognizable and some piece just barely hanging on.

In the calm after the storm, cleaning up is the number one priority as friends and neighbors giving each other a lift and helping out to get the job done.

“You just don’t plan for these things,” said Clemens.
